Pimples, blackheads and bumps – aren’t these just an annoyance of puberty? Unfortunately, not. Although acne affects 85% of teens, it can also affect young children and adults of all ages. Acne is a disorder affecting the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. It is due to a combination of factors, and the exact mechanism isn’t fully understood. Some factors involved include: hormones, acne bacteria, familial tendency, and inflammatory immune activity. A word of advice: don’t pick or pop! See your dermatologist for an exam and prescription that will work.
